SSYRA

From the Florida Association for Media in Education website:
The Sunshine State Young Readers Award (SSYRA) Program is a statewide reading motivational program for students in grades 3 through 8. The purpose of the SSYRA Program is to encourage students to read independently for pleasure and to read books that are on, above, and below their reading level in order to improve their reading fluency. Sunshine State books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation.

Thornebrooke provides an optional incentive program for 3rd - 5th grade students. Students can set one of three personal goals. Students who read three or more can vote for their favorite.  Students who read 10 - 14 are invited to a library party. Students who read all 15 are invited to a field trip.  For the students who have a goal of reading all 15 books but do not pass an AR test with 70% or higher there is a one “do-over” policy. Once the student completes all 15 tests, Miss Ann will delete the ONE test and the student can reread and retest. Typically voting takes place in March.  The cutoff for the other goals is April 15.

SSYRA Jr

From the Florida Association for Media in Education website:
The mission of the SSYRA Jr. program is to develop student interest in reading for pleasure by exposing them to a wide range of appropriate literature. Sunshine State Jr. books are selected for their wide appeal, literary value, varied genres, curriculum connections, and/or multicultural representation. Students are encouraged to listen to these books read to them, read them in a small group setting, or read independently to develop skills in fluency and comprehension. Students will be eligible to vote in the spring after listening/reading at least three of the books.

In addition, TES has an optional program for 1st and 2nd grade students.  Students who read all 15 books and independently take an AR test and pass with 80% or higher are invited to a library party at the end of the year.  Cutoff for this goal is April 15.
