Media Center Policies

Library Hours:

8:15 – 8:35 Library open for book check out and AR testing
Fridays: 8:05 with parents Backpacks should be left outside the library against the mural


All Classes will visit the library on a weekly basis Book

Check Out:

Kindergarten students may check out one book each visit
1st – 5th grade students may borrow two books per visit
Only one chapter book may be checked out at a time
If a student has ANYTHING overdue, they must return that item prior to checking out any new items.

Parent Book Checkout:

As a courtesy, students who are accompanied by parents may check out two additional non-fiction or picture books.
No additional chapter books may be checked out.
Same overdue policy applies.

Expectations/Expected Behavior:

Use shelf markers!
Library voice levels
Once “library business” is finished (book check out or AR test) students will head to class
Go to class when the first bell rings unless in the middle of a test

Parent Expectations:

Model expected behavior for students by:
Using shelf markers when removing books from the shelves
Keeping conversations quiet and to a minimum
Heading out once “library business” is finished


No one, including parents, should help or sit with students while they take AR tests.
A Junior Librarian is available to help students locate AR tests and help with difficult vocabulary.


For the students who have a goal of reading all 15 books but do not pass an AR test (70% SSYRA or 80% SSYRA Jr) there is a one “do-over” policy. Once the student completes all 15 tests, Miss Ann will delete the ONE test and the student can reread and retest.
