Have you heard the term “social and emotional learning/SEL?” SEL is very important here at Thornebrooke and across Orange County Public Schools.
SEL is defined by the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) as the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to accomplish the following:
• understand and manage emotions
• set and achieve positive goals
• feel and show empathy for others
• establish and maintain positive relationships
• and make responsible decisions.
It is all about children (and adults) learning how to become aware of their feelings, manage their feelings, develop positive relationships with others, and make responsible decisions. We will be sharing more about SEL throughout the year.
